Liverpool foodbank Christmas toys demand doubles
BBCDemand for donated Christmas toys has doubled as families struggle to treat and feed their children, community workers have said.
Staff at the L6 Community Centre in Liverpool have said they are "shocked" at the soaring demand for food and toys this year.
However donations have dropped at their foodbanks.
Families have told the BBC they are struggling to afford Christmas during the cost of living crisis.
Father-of-four Martin Landregan was at the centre to find a dress for his two-year-old daughter from the baby foodbank.
The single father told BBC North West Tonight: "Everything's a struggle at the moment, it has been for a while.
"I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel.
"I have never been in so much debt on the gas and electricity, so that has made it much, much harder to make money last. It's never been as hard as this.
"I just want to make sure the kids have enough to open on Christmas morning."
Head of operations Shirley Marshall said she put up Christmas lights at the centre as it might be the "only ones the children get to see".
She added: "It's bad out there - it's really sad."
