Plans for 93 homes in village rejected
GooglePlans to build 93 homes in a Shropshire village have been rejected.
Developer Shropshire Homes wanted to construct the estate on Butt Lane in Ford, close to the village's primary school.
But people living nearby objected over the scale of the development and said they were concerned about an increase in traffic.
Shropshire Council officers had recommended the plans be approved, but councillors voted six to four against.
Nearly 100 objections were received by the council ahead of Tuesday's planning committee meeting, including from Ford Parish Council.
Local resident Adam Shantry, who spoke at the meeting, said the plans did not accurately represent the current traffic situation and added that he believed an increase in traffic at the junction with the A458 would be dangerous.
Concerns were also raised about a lack of local facilities and the effect of the extra homes on the character of the village.
The report, which went before councillors, said the application met all the tests for a sustainable development and because the local authority had no local plan to control housebuilding, the presumption had to be in favour of approval.
Shropshire Homes had proposed access to the development through a new junction on to Butt Lane, including a new pedestrian crossing.
They also said there would be a drop-off spot and short-stay car park to serve Trinity C of E Primary School.
But councillors chose to oppose the application.
