Legends from Everton and Liverpool FC will put their rivalries aside to play a charity football match later this year.

The Game4Hope will take place at Hill Dickinson Stadium on 26 September to raise money for Shelter and Everton in the Community, to help people affected by homelessness in the Liverpool City Region.

Merseyside XI will feature the likes of Robbie Fowler, Leighton Baines, Gareth Barry, and John Aldridge, under the joint management of Peter Reid and John Barnes.

They will play against a Rest of the World XI side which includes Brazil's World Cup-winning captain Cafu, as well as Champions League winners Clarence Seedorf and Jaap Stam.

Celebrity fans stepping onto the pitch include Tony Bellew, John Bishop, and Molly McCann.

Seven-time Women's Premier League winner Rachel Yankey and Chelcee Grimes will also feature.

Rapper Tinie Tempah will perform at half-time.

'Urgent challenge'

In February, Liverpool City Council said the cost of housing the up to 1,600 homeless families and individuals in the region could cost as much as £90m in the next few.

Sue Gregory, CEO at Everton in the Community, said homelessness is "one of the most urgent challenges" facing communities.

"Game4Hope is about our city coming together to say that nobody should be without a safe and secure place to call home," she said.

"The funds and awareness raised will help us continue to be there for people facing some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable, while shining a light on both the visible and hidden reality of homelessness across our region.

She added: "I hope supporters from across Merseyside and beyond will join us at Hill Dickinson Stadium for what promises to be a very special day for our city."
