Ashford Odeon restoration plans revealed
Ashford Borough CouncilNew designs have revealed how Ashford's former Odeon cinema could look once it has been restored.
The cinema was built in 1936 but has been empty since 2018, last being used by Mecca Bingo. Now, Ashford Borough Council says plans to bring it back to life are one step closer.
Those plans include a new performance space, a cafe/bar with an "informal workspace", and a gallery. The building's ballroom will also be restored and would be available for hire.
The public can view the plans at a consultation event on 18 September, between 10:00 and 16:00 BST, at County Square shopping centre.
Ashford Borough CouncilA spokesperson for the council said: "The project responds to the community's strong call for more arts, cultural and performance space in Ashford town centre."
The authority said the new designs were developed based on feedback from the community and "local cultural partners".
Changes on the initial plans, it said, included increased capacity for the studio theatre, an improved backstage area and a more accessible High Street entrance and box office.
A planning application will be submitted after the public consultation event.
