Marley O'Toole, 15, and Mark Osmond, 60, are competing in different categories at the same competition

A 15-year-old boy and his 60-year-old coach have represented Great Britain in the same international wakeboarding competition.

Marley O'Toole, from Camberley, Surrey, and his coach Mark Osmond, from Elstead, are taking part in the Europe and Africa Wakeboard Boat Championships in Greece.

Osmond, who is the oldest in the competition, told BBC Radio Surrey: "Marley's father brought him and his sister along to ride and I was one of their first coaches, so now seven or eight years later, it's incredible having him at the same competition."

O'Toole said: "I've known him for my whole career and he's like a father to me in the wakeboarding industry."

Competitors at the championships choose 10 tricks to perform which are then marked.

Osmond, who was competing in the senior men category, said that he had to do strength and conditioning training specific for wakeboarding three times a week to stay fit.

"I do have to think about how I manage myself through the year to get into the position where I can ride," he said.

"It is a very intense sport and you're doing flips and spins so injuries can be harsh."

O'Toole, who trained at LDB Wakeschool near Thorpe Park, is preparing for his junior men semi-final after finishing first in his qualifier.

"My dream would be either a Red Bull sponsorship or just to win the world championships," he said.

The competition runs until Saturday, when the finals will be held.
