Collision to keep A12 partially shut all day
George King/BBCThe northbound A12 in north-east Essex is expected to be closed all day after a collision involving a lorry and a car.
National Highways posted on social media at 11:34 BST to say both carriageways were closed between junction 28 (Colchester United's stadium) and junction 26 (Stanway), and there had been delays of up to an hour. It was also causing heavy congestion in Colchester itself.
The southbound carriageway has reopened, but the closure is being keep in place on the other carriageway.
An air ambulance landed at the scene earlier and vehicles caught in the closure were being turned around, National Highways said.
Motorists have been experiencing severe delays between junction 25 (Marks Tey) and junction 29 (Langham/Ardleigh).
While the full closure remained in place on the northbound carriageway between junction 27 (for Colchester centre) and junction 29 (Ardleigh/A120), Essex Police were lifting restrictions at junction 26.
