Boys charged with theft as police probe crimewave

Two teenagers have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle by police investigating crime and anti-social behaviour in Kings Heath, Birmingham.

The boys, aged 14 and 13, will appear in court at a later date, West Midlands Police said.

The force said the arrests were part of their investigation into repeated incidents in the area.

Earlier this week a local councillor said police needed to take urgent action against a group of young people who have been causing havoc in recent months.

Jordan Phillip said the "specific" group were responsible for crime along the High Street and Kings Heath Park.

The Green Party member said homes and businesses had been targeted, knives used to threaten people and "intimidating behaviour" towards those attending evening classes at the All Saints Centre.

Phillip said he previously met with local sergeants to discuss the issue.

West Midlands Police said: "We are aware of ongoing concerns around anti-social behaviour in Kings Heath and are continuing to work with community groups and the local authority to take action against known offenders."

They said they have held regular community meetings and engagement throughout the summer, as well as high-visibility patrols and targeted operations to respond to the concerns of the public.

Both teenagers were bailed ahead of their first court hearing, while a third boy aged 13 remains in custody while police inquiries continue.
