Repairs to lorry-damaged bridge set to cost £60k

The bridge was closed for just over a fortnight after the incident

Repair work to a bridge damaged after a lorry hit and smashed over one of its sides is expected to cost £60,000, a council said.

The lorry was driven into the brick bridge in Church Road, Swallowfield, on 11 February and remained shut until 26 February.

Motorists can still only use one lane at a time to get over the River Blackwater, which flows under the bridge.

Thames Valley Police said previously that no one has been arrested following the incident.

Wokingham Borough Council, which owns the bridge, gave the expected cost in a freedom of information request.

Its roads website says traffic lights are expected to remain on Church Road until Friday but the council did not respond when asked to confirm that.
