Civic funeral to be held for former lord mayor
Hull City CouncilThe civic funeral of a former lord mayor of Hull will take place later this month, the city council has said.
Anita Harrison died last month at the age of 71.
She served as a Labour councillor for 24 years, representing the Bransholme East ward and more recently the North Carr ward, as well as holding the post of lord mayor between 2015 and 2016.
A civic procession will take place on 17 June from the Guildhall to Hull Minster where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 BST.
Tributes were paid by all political parties in the Guildhall when Harrison's death was announced on 11 May.
Council leader Mike Ross praised "her commitment and dedication to the people she served".
He said he would miss her "sense of humour and the contributions she made in the council chamber over the years".
Harrison's Labour colleague Councillor Daren Hale described her as a "much-loved brilliant friend and comrade".
"A brilliant public servant, she passionately cared about the people of Hull, particularly her beloved Bransholme," he said.
"We are shocked and the world today seems a more empty place without our Anita."
