A man and a woman have both been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman in her 80s was killed in a crash.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was called to the incident on the southbound carriageway of the A31, near Froyle, at about 16:30 BST on Monday.

The force said the collision involved a silver Volkswagen Golf and a grey Skoda Roomster, with a female passenger in the Skoda pronounced dead at the scene.

A 40-year-old man from Haslemere, Surrey, and a 24-year-old woman from Winchester were both held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the collision, police said.

The pair remain in custody.

The family of the deceased have been informed.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
