Pretty in pink: Anne prepares for her head shave
SuppliedA woman is braving a head shave at a pub that turned pink to raise money for her friend as she goes through breast cancer treatment.
Anne Ogden, 65, from Tydd St Mary, near the Lincolnshire-Cambridgeshire border, will have the shave on Saturday at the Five Bellsto supporther friend Lisa, who runs the village shop.
The pub was painted pink in February in advance of its cancer fundraising day this weekend.
Despite feeling nervous, Anne said: "I'm going to just hold my head high and be proud of what I've done."
Anne, who is a staff nurse for the endoscopy unit at North Cambridgeshire Hospital, said she wanted to return the favour after Lisa had raised money for her granddaughter when she was sick.
"Lisa is quite a pillar in our village. She's done a lot of work for the community over the years," Anne said.
Anne has nearly reached her £1,000 sponsorship target.
"I'm not sure if it's a good idea or a spur-of-the-moment mad idea but I've had a lot of support," she said.
"I do feel nervous about it. After the event I'm going to feel very vulnerable and won't know what I'll look like."
Tony Allard, who owns the pub with his wife Sharon, said: "Everyone is affected somewhere in their life with cancer. I'd say 99% of people have got behind it.
"We have had a few older people saying it's disgusting and 'How could you paint it that colour?' [But] you are always going to get a few."
The pub will revert to its traditional look after the event.
