Village Co-op ram raid 'shocking', MP says
GoogleA village shop has been ram raided in what the local MP called a "reckless and unacceptable" act.
Surrey Police said officers were called to the Co-op in Rowledge shortly before 03.25 BST on 6 October, following a report of an attempted burglary.
Two vehicles, both believed to be black SUVs, were reportedly used to ram open the building's doors and windows, according to the force.
After failing to gain entry to the store, officers said the vehicles fled the scene.
Gregory Stafford, MP for Farnham and Bordon, said the incident was "particularly shocking" for residents and staff.
"This was a reckless and entirely unacceptable act of criminality, which is deeply unsettling for any community," he posted on social media.
He added that the "significant damage caused" would also be a "major inconvenience" for the Co-op and its customers.
Surrey Police said the two suspected SUVs involved in the offence were later found abandoned, and that one had been set alight in a field in Batt's Corner.
No one was injured and no arrests have been made, according to officers.
Surrey Police said enquiries were under way to identify those responsible.
