Firefighters tackle large bus blaze

Firefighters have tackled a large bus fire in Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 18:20 BST on Tuesday to reports of a large vehicle fire in Woodborough Road in Mapperley.

The service said three crews attended the scene and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire after about an hour.

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) confirmed a bio-gas bus on the Sky Blue Line 60 route was involved in the fire, with the driver and all passengers "safely evacuated".

NCT said at 18:45 on Tuesday there were delays and diversions to bus services as Woodborough Road was closed.

The transport operator later confirmed at 23:00 that services had returned to normal.

A spokesperson added: "Our team attended the scene immediately following the incident. We are working closely with all relevant agencies to determine the cause of the fire.

"Our thoughts are with all affected and we thank our driver for their quick response."
