Man in court charged with street stabbing murder

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a street stabbing.

A 31-year-old man was found seriously injured on Yarm Lane in Stockton-on-Tees on Wednesday night, at the junction with Lawrence Street, and died in hospital a short time later.

Richard Shaw, 49, of Leybourne Terrace was also charged with separate offences of sexual assault, possession of a bladed article in public and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

Shaw appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody. He is next due at the Teesside Crown Court on Monday.

Cleveland Police officers were called to the junction at about 21:50 BST and the 31-year-old was taken to James Cook University Hospital, where he later died.
