Choir started to help mothers' mental health
Emily BollonA new choir aimed at supporting maternal mental health is set to launch in Godalming, Surrey.
Emily Bollon, who also runs gospel, Parkinson's, and cancer choirs, is hosting the sessions at Buzzbridge Village Hall to help bring mothers together.
"After welcoming my first baby last year, I found that there were so many amazing baby classes, but there seemed fewer with a focus on mum and her health and well-being, so here it is," she said.
"An opportunity for mums to lap up the benefits of singing together."
The group will start with a three-week soft launch period in May where three sessions will cost £36 and single drop-in sessions will cost £15.
Bollon, who has been involved in choirs for almost 20 years, says singing helps lower cortisol while boosting dopamine, endorphins, and oxytocin, and helps mothers bond with their babies.
"The things that mums seem to struggle with, the top things, especially in that first year of having a baby, are the mental, emotional, and social challenges," she explained.
