Scotland has recorded its warmest temperatures of the year, just two days after Storm Dave brought snow to parts of the country.

In the north of Scotland, Kinloss reached 22.5C, according to the Met Office, with Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway hitting 20.5C.

The previous warmest temperature of 2026 was at Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire, when it reached 20C on 20 March.

But the arrival of Storm Dave last weekend brought snow and high winds to parts of the country, causing travel disruption and power cuts.

It was also the warmest day of the year in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, according to the Met Office.

A temperature of 19C was recorded in Armagh, while Merryfield in the south of England hit 22.5C.

However, the warmest place in the UK was Mona on the Isle of Anglesey, where local people and visitors enjoyed temperatures of 24.8C.

The Met Office said Wednesday would be even warmer for parts of England, Wales and eastern Scotland, with temperatures expected to top 26C in south-east England.

It was a far cry from the weather over the Easter weekend, when wind speeds of 73mph were recorded in Buchan, Aberdeenshire.

Some roads were blocked by trees, while dozens of homes in southern and western areas were left without power.

Meanwhile, areas of the west Highlands, Argyll and the Western Isles experienced heavy snowfall.
