Community bid to buy shop site in Drumnadrochit
Getty ImagesOrganisations in Drumnadrochit say they have been given a "once in a generation opportunity" to secure an area of land in the village for the local community.
Glen Urquhart Rural Community Association, Glen Urquhart Shinty Club, Glen Urquhart Highland Games, Glen Urquhart Rugby and Football clubs hope to buy a former shop next to Blairbeg Park shinty pitch.
They plan to build a sports, health and wellbeing centre on the site.
The Scottish Land Fund has pledged £210,000 towards the £325,000 asking price for the shop, and other groups have contributed funds.
Shinty club treasurer Fraser MacKenzie said £37,000 had still to be raised to secure the site in the village on the shores of Loch Ness.
The proposed new centre would include modern changing rooms, a fitness suite, sauna, cold box and treatment rooms that could also be used for meetings.
MacKenzie said the site was almost the last flat piece of ground in the middle of the village not yet developed.
He added: "This spot would be ideal as it's beside existing facilities and it would be a huge benefit to the whole community."
