Man in court charged with murder after Edinburgh stabbing

A 33-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of another man in Edinburgh.

Jake McKay appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court accused of killing Barry Gilgun who died in hospital on Sunday.

He was also charged with carrying a bladed weapon in public and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

He made no plea and the case was continued for further examination. McKay was remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again next week.

Emergency services respond to disturbance at Leith flats

Gilgun is understood to have been stabbed during a disturbance outside the Banana Flats in Leith - officially known as Cables Wynd House - at about 21:40 on Sunday.

He was found with serious injuries and taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

Armed officers had been called to a disturbance outside the flats.

Footage from the scene showed an ambulance and dozens of police cars.
