Strikes suspended at school as plan implemented
PA MediaTeachers have voted to suspend six further days of strike action due to progress made on introducing new pupil behaviour rules.
A six-week plan has been agreed between union members and Tewkesbury Academy in Gloucestershire after 50 teachers and staff members walked out in February over concerns about pupil behaviour.
Union members plan to meet again on 18 May to discuss what progress has been made. Ted Powell, from National Education Union (NEU), said some members of staff "still have outstanding concerns about the school's behaviour system".
Tewkesbury Academy declined to comment on the cancellation of the planned strike action.
In a letter to parents in March, the school outlined its new behaviour policy commitments.
These include 60‑minute after‑school detentions, de‑escalation training for staff, and suspensions for pupils who swear at an adult.
Members from both NEU and The Teachers' Union had planned to strike on six days throughout May, but this industrial action has now been suspended.
A NEU spokesperson said a meeting is planned with Tewkesbury Academy on 19 May to discuss progress at the school.
The NASUWT said it would continue to monitor how pupil behaviour is being managed at the school.
