Trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow have been delayed after a lorry struck a bridge in the capital.

Network Rail said rail services had been stopped to allow an inspection of the bridge on Balgreen Road to take place at 16:50 on Wednesday.

ScotRail warned passengers services travelling through Haymarket towards Glasgow Queen Street and Bathgate would be "cancelled, delayed or revised".

The operator said engineers had inspected the bridge and found it was safe for services to run, however, some delays may be caused by trains being out of position.

Those with valid train tickets can use them on Midland Bluebird bus services between Falkirk and Edinburgh Waverley, Scottish Citylink services between Edinburgh and Glasgow and Edinburgh Trams between Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh Park.

ScotRail said: "We are working to hard to get trains and crew back into position. Delays, alterations and cancellations may still occur, please check your journey before travelling."
