Number of arrests rises to seven following fire

Three more teenagers have been arrested after a fire at a former school, bringing the total number to seven.

Firefighters, police officers and paramedics were first called to the former Parkway Middle School on Park Road, in Haverhill, Suffolk, at 20:20 BST on 12 May.

Suffolk Police said that on Wednesday, they arrested three teenagers, one 14-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys, on suspicion of criminal damage – arson.

This follows the arrest of two 15-year-old boys on 13 and 14 May, and two further teenagers aged 14 and 15 on 15 May for the same offence.

The three latest teenagers to be arrested were bailed to return to the police on 24, 25 August and 24 July respectively.

About 90% of the building collapsed, but no injuries were reported, the fire service said.

About 70 firefighters tackled the blaze and remained on site for about 19 hours.

The police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
