A1 junction work delayed until summer
Getty ImagesWork to rebuild two busy roundabouts that connect traffic to the A1 has been delayed.
Lincolnshire County Council said works due to start on Monday at Colsterworth, connecting the A151 to the A1 via slip roads, were now expected to begin later this summer due to unforeseen issues with traffic management.
When the road improvement scheme was announced last month, Councillor David East, of Lincolnshire County Council, said the roundabouts were "in much need of some TLC".
He said the road would be "much safer and smoother to drive on" when the work has been completed.
"This is a significant scheme that will see a full reconstruction of these key junctions and some of the nearby A151, using over 3,000 tonnes of material to strengthen the road for the future," he said.
GoogleCouncillor Charlotte Vernon said thousands of vehicles use the roundabouts every week.
"Unfortunately, the road surfacing on them is starting to fail, which has led to some cracking and potholes forming," she said.
"Over time, these issues would only get worse – so I'm glad to see that the county council's highways team will be fully rebuilding the carriageway before that can happen."
The authority said roadworks would take place on the east roundabout from the A1 slip road to just past the truck stop, and on the west roundabout from the A1 slip road to Coronation Drive.
Details of potential night time and weekend road closures will be announced later in the summer, the council said.
