Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace after a man was stabbed during a suspected robbery in Barnsley.

Officers were called by the ambulance service to Pontefract Road at 20:50 BST on Thursday following reports a man had been attacked at the Todays Express store.

The 40-year-old victim was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition but had since stabilised, South Yorkshire Police said.

Det Ch Insp Andy Knowles said identifying the man pictured could be "key to progressing the investigation".

He said officers were "working around the clock to piece together" the events of the night and that police had increased patrols in the area.
