Dorset Police said an illegal rave near East Lulworth in April drew about 2,000 people and more than 100 vehicles

Police have promised "preventative" patrols to crack down on unlicenced music events over the bank holiday weekend.

Dorset Police said it was targeting nearly a dozen locations which may be "vulnerable" to illegal activities.

The force said it has been working with land owners and other organisations such as the Ministry of Defence to "strengthen" security arrangements.

It is urging people to report unusual activity such as large groups arriving late at night or early morning to remote, industrial, rural or warehouse locations or significant convoys of vehicles.

It comes after missiles were thrown at police as they shut down an illegal rave at a beauty spot in April.

Dorset Police said there were 11 arrests at the event, near East Lulworth, that drew about 2,000 people and more than 100 vehicles.

In a statement on Friday the force said: "We are working hard to protect our countryside and prevent any impact of anti-social behaviour on local residents.

"Reporting to us at the earliest opportunity gives us the best possible opportunity to respond appropriately and ensure everyone in Dorset can have a good safe summer."
