The collision happened in Stortford Road, Leaden Roding, on 28 April

A 16-year-old was killed when he was struck by a van moments after getting off a bus, a coroner said.

Oliver Lane suffered a traumatic brain injury in the collision in Leaden Roding, near Great Dunmow, on 28 April, and died in hospital two days later.

He was crossing Stortford Road with a 23-year-old man, who was also hit by the vehicle at 18:00 BST, Essex Coroner's Court was told.

Area coroner Michelle Brown said police were not treating the incident as suspicious and a full inquest would be heard in due course.

Oliver was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge but died from his injuries at 17:20 on 30 April.

His provisional cause of death was given as multiple trauma, a traumatic brain injury, aortic transection and a road traffic collision.

Describing the incident, Brown said: "Having been on a bus, they got off the bus and then went on to the pavement.

"As they were trying to cross the road, they walked into the carriageway. A van was unable to stop and sadly hit both of them as they were crossing."

She said Oliver and the 23-year-old man were not known to each other.

Essex Police said the man remained in hospital in a stable condition.

Officers previously said the van driver stopped at the scene, but no arrests were made.
