Two men have been arrested after about £160,000 was found in two cars travelling from Merseyside to Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said it received reports of a suspicious vehicle at about 18:00 BST on Friday.

One vehicle stopped at the Eccles Interchange junction was found to have about £100,000 in cash inside. Shortly afterwards a second vehicle - also travelling to Manchester - was pulled over by police and £60,000 was seized.

Men aged 37 and 61 were arrested on suspicion of money laundering and both remain in custody for questioning.

Sgt Laura Abram said: "We will not tolerate any form of criminality on our streets – from driving offences to suspected money-laundering and associated criminality."
