Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said it had been at the blaze, close to the A149 Coast Road between Cley and Salthouse marshes, since Wednesday afternoon and was now damping down hotspots

Fire crews are damping down hotspots at a coastal marsh after a blaze damaged gorse and woodland.

At its height, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said it sent 40 firefighters to the blaze next to the A149 Coast Road between Cley and Salthouse marshes, after it was alerted at 14:25 BST on Wednesday.

Crews from 13 stations across the county were sent to the scene, while relief teams worked through the night to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading.

In a social media update, the fire service said it was "scaling back" the incident. Norfolk Wildlife Trust, which runs Cley and Salthouse marshes visitor centre and nature reserve, said the blaze was not on its land.

The fire service added four crews and a water carrier would remain at the scene.

It also said the A149 Coast Road was open, but advised motorists to drive with care.

The blaze was reported using the online address system What3Words to successfully pinpoint the rural location, with the fire service saying it "enabled us to get to the scene quickly".

On Friday, the fire service said while it is "unusual" to deal with wildfires in October, the blaze had affected an area of 200m (656ft) by 200m.
