Devizes Road will be subject to various road closures until March 2027

A major road will be shut until March 2027 so engineers can replace old gas pipes.

Drivers have been warned to prepare for the "disruptive" measures as different sections of Devizes Road in Salisbury, Wiltshire, will be closed in stages.

The first closure, beginning this week, will stretch from the junction of Gas Lane towards St Paul's roundabout, with staff from gas supplier SGN's contractor on site during the work.

On their website, SGN describe the gas works as essential to "avoid disruptive gas leaks in the future".

Which roads will be closed?

Phase one - Junction of Gas Lane to Access to Shops Devizes Road, towards St Paul's Roundabout [estimated to last four weeks]

Phase two - Junction of Gas Lane to junction Clifton Road [three weeks]

Phase three - Clifton Road to the junction of Ashley Road [three weeks]

Phase four - Ashley Road to the junction of Kingsland Road [three weeks]

Phase five - Kingsland Road to the junction of Highfield Road [five weeks]

Phase six - Gas Lane Road from the junction of Devizes Road to the junction with Coldharbour Lane [four weeks]

Is anyone allowed through the road closures?

Only people who live on the closed roads will have access during the works, with nobody else able to drive through - although pedestrians and cyclists will be allowed through.

Bus journey will also be disrupted while the pipes are being replaced.

SGN said in a statement on its website that the works schedule may change, and local residents should check its website for any updates.

The work will be carried out by I&G Contractors Limited.
