Boy, 10, in hospital after fall on zip wire during school trip
BBCA 10-year-old boy is in hospital after falling while preparing to take on a zip wire on a school trip.
The pupil at Libanus Primary in Blackwood, Caerphilly, was at the Dolygaer Outdoor Centre in Merthyr Tydfil on Wednesday evening when the incident happened.
The centre's website says its zip wire starts with a 20m (65ft) climb up a tree to a platform before a 100m long zip line ride.
Staff at the site and teachers gave the boy first aid, with a mountain rescue team member also involved, before paramedics arrived.
In a statement the centre said it understood the boy was still recovering in hospital.
"Our primary concern is the wellbeing of the student and their family, as well as the students and staff who witnessed this event.
"We are continuing to work closely with the school to provide necessary reassurance and support," a spokesperson said.
"Dolygaer remains committed to the highest standards of safety and will be cooperating fully with any further inquiries," they added.
Nicola Williams, executive head teacher of Libanus Primary School, confirmed one of the school's pupils was involved in "an accident at a local activity centre last week".
"The whole school community wishes him a full and speedy recovery," she said, adding that "the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff is paramount and we will be fully supporting the investigation into the cause of the incident".
Dolygaer Outdoor Centre offers day and residential outdoor activity trips to schools, as well as groups and families.
It says it provides a climbing helmet, harness and pulleys and technical metal work for all participants and staff make sure that any equipment assigned is correctly fitted and participants are shown how to use it.
