Two charged with human trafficking in shoplifting crackdown

Two people have been charged with human trafficking offences in Glasgow as part of action to tackle retail crime.

Police Scotland said vulnerable young people were being targeted to steal alcohol from shops across the west of Scotland.

A 62-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were arrested as part of Operation Dynos, and they are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

A total of nine adults have been arrested in connection with the criminal exploitation of children and young people since the operation began in April 2025.

In November, Police Scotland said alcohol worth £50,000 had been shoplifted by young people and sold on to fund organised criminal activity.

PC Paul Steell said: "We remain committed to tackling retail crime, while continuing to safeguard young people from harm and coercion into criminal behaviour.

"We will continue to gather evidence and use all resources at our disposal to tackle this type of crime."
