Biker who died following crash on Lewis named

A motorcyclist who died following a crash on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles has been named by police.

Emergency services were called to a collision between Roland Crichton's black BMW S1000 RS motorcycle and a silver MG car near Newmarket at about 16:40 on Saturday.

The 56-year-old, from Mull in Argyll, was taken to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway where he died.

Police said the 44-year-old male driver of the car was arrested in connection with the crash.

Police Scotland has appealed for information on the collision.

Sgt Scott MacDonald said: "Our thoughts remain with Mr Crichton's family at this incredibly sad time.

"Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

He asked for anyone with information to contact the police."
