Patients are being asked to use urgent treatment centres, GPs or pharmacists while work to replace the floor of a hospital emergency department takes place.

The "essential works" in the Majors unit at Hull Royal Infirmary's accident and emergency department (A&E) started earlier and will take about eight weeks to complete, the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said.

The service will still operate as normal during the work but the team will be based in ward H36, which is smaller than their current area.

"Please don't be concerned. If you need us, we are here for you and you can continue to access the service by coming to the emergency department as normal," the trust said.

Officials added alternative services may be "better placed" to meet patients' needs while the work takes place.

They added A&E patients with the greatest need would be prioritised for treatment.
