Leak closes swimming pool for two weeks
Getty ImagesA swimming pool will close for two weeks during the school summer holidays after a leak was found in pipework.
The facility in Kettering will be shut temporarily from Monday, 24 August until Sunday, 6 September, North Northamptonshire Council said. The gym would remain open.
It would allow "contractors to undertake essential repair works to resolve a leak in the main pool tank".
The council added the works would "involve excavation, construction activity and significant noise disruption" and it was being fully closed to "ensure the safety of customers, staff and contractors while the repairs are completed".
During this time, the poolside shower area would be refurbished and other essential maintenance and housekeeping works carried out.
Councillor Brian Benneyworth, executive member for housing, health and leisure, said: "We understand that the temporary closure will be disappointing for our regular swimmers, clubs and other users, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
"These essential works are necessary to address a leak affecting the main pool tank and to protect the long-term operation of the pool as a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment."
The council added that the work was being carried out to ensure school swimming could continue when schools returned for the new year in September.
