Charity saves badger trapped in football goal net
New Arc Wildlife RescueA badger which became entangled in a goal net in Aberdeenshire has been rescued by a wildlife charity.
It is thought the animal, which was discovered at Monquhitter School in Cuminestown on Monday morning, may have been trapped over the weekend but, despite that, rescuers said he was still "very feisty".
New Arc Wildlife Rescue said the badger was safely restrained to allow for as much of the netting to be removed before being transferred to a vet.
The animal was said to be recovering well and the charity has urged those using football nets to take them down when not in use.
Animal welfare charities have warned that unattended sports netting can be potentially lethal to wildlife.
Their advice is that any trapped animal will be "extremely frightened" and will probably try to defend itself.
They should only be handled by experienced rescuers with specialist equipment.
The Scottish SPCA said anyone finding an injured or sick badger should contact its hotline on 03000 999 999 and wait for one of its rescue officers to arrive.
