A fire that caused extensive damage to a former social club in Nottingham is being treated by police as a potential arson.

Multiple crews from Stockhill, Arnold, London Road, Carlton and Hucknall fought the blaze at the disused Top Valley Social Club in Ridgeway Walk following a call at 19:29 BST on Wednesday.

Nottinghamshire Police said the fire in the roof of the single-storey building caused the roof to collapse and further structural damage.

A joint fire and police investigation has not ruled out foul play, said the force, as it launched an appeal for information.

Det Con Jim Bravant said: "While thankfully nobody sustained any injuries in this incident, that could've easily been different.

"We're still trying to get to the bottom of how it originated, so at this stage are not ruling out that it could've been lit deliberately.

"Arson is an incredibly serious offence, so we're naturally keen to find out who might've been responsible."
