Auctioneer Clive Emson – who appeared on BBC programme Homes Under the Hammer over two decades – has died aged 79.

Emson, from Monks Horton near Sellindge, Kent, passed away on Wednesday, surrounded by his family, it has been announced.

Sam Kinloch, director and senior auction valuer at Clive Emson Auctioneers, described him as a "gentleman" and "very special" in a tribute released by the company.

Emson, whose wife of 50 years, Sue, died six years ago, leaves behind two children and four grandchildren.

In a statement released by Emson's company, Kinloch said: "Clive was the most selfless person you could ever have been fortunate enough to meet.

"His integrity, humour and passion for life shone out to everyone around him. He was a gentleman in the true sense of the word.

"Every life he touched whether they were colleagues, friends, clients and of course his family would have been left with the impression they had met someone very special."
