Refuse worker dies in crash on the way to work
GoogleA refuse worker has been killed in a crash on his way to work in Derbyshire.
South Derbyshire District Council said it happened on Thursday morning and the authority was supporting the worker's family.
Derbyshire Police added the collision, between a Cupra Formentor and an Aprilia motorbike, happened in Caldwell Road in Drakelow at about 06:00 BST.
The rider of the motorbike, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was uninjured.
Police are urging potential witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage to come forward.
In a statement, the council said: "Tragically this morning, one of our refuse loaders passed away, following a road traffic collision on his way to work.
"Our deepest sympathies are with his family, who we are supporting as best we can.
"Our Refuse and Recycling team is of course affected by this tragic news and unfortunately this does mean we will face some disruption to collections today.
"We will endeavour to catch up on anything that is missed as soon as possible.
"Please accept our apologies, we are supporting our teams during such a sad time and hope our residents will understand."
