A pedestrian has been killed by a car while walking on a dual carriageway.

The man in his 20s was hit by a white Seat Alhambra on the A189 in Northumberland, between Burradon Road and the Moor Farm Roundabout, police said.

He was taken to hospital just after the crash at 01:30 BST on Saturday but died from his injuries later that day.

Northumbria Police said the driver of the car stayed at the scene. Sgt Steven Chappell said inquiries were under way and appealed for witnesses, or drivers who had been in the area at the time, to come forward.
