Charge after shooting leaves boy critically injured

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a 16-year-old boy was left with life-threatening injuries when he was shot in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said the victim remained in a critical condition in hospital after the attack in Bowyer Road, Alum Rock, shortly before 17.30 BST on Wednesday.

The force said the 17-year-old was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Friday.

Det Insp Francis Nock said: "Our investigation is continuing and I would urge anyone who might have seen something or has dashcam or doorbell footage to get in touch.

"Officers will remain in the area today to offer reassurance to the local community."
