Plan to cut speed limit on busy city road

The speed limit on a busy city road is set to be reduced as part of improvement works.

Cornwall Council said it wanted to introduce double yellow lines and cut the speed limit on Morlaix Avenue in Truro from 70 mph (112kmh) to 40 mph (64kmh) in connection with the new Park Deg Erow housing development.

As part of the agreed works, the scheme includes the introduction of waiting restrictions at the site, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The council said the lower speed limit would "improve safety for all road users and ensure vehicles approach the new junction at a safer speed".

The improvements also included a new shared-use pedestrian and cycle path, together with a signal-controlled junction.

"These changes will stop vehicles from parking where they could block drivers' views, or make it harder for traffic to move safely in and out of the new housing development," the council said.

A consultation on the proposal is due to close on 7 August, with a decision due in September and work estimated to take place in Spring 2027 if approved.
