Appeal after girl,17, sexually assaulted on path

A 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a canal path, police said.

Northamptonshire Police is appealing for witnesses after reports the teenager was the victim of a serious sexual assault on the path next to the River Nene on Trenery Way, Northampton, between 01:00 and 04:00 BST on Sunday.

The force has asked anyone with information to contact them.

Officers will be in the area to reassure the local community.
