Man charged with murder of 74-year-old grandfather
BBCA man has been charged with the murder of a 74-year-old grandfather in Pontypool.
The 37-year-old, from Cwmbran, has also been charged with threats to kill and harassment and was due to be remanded at an appearance before Newport Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Gwent Police said officers attended a property in Bythway Road, Trevethin, Pontypool, at about 16:55 BST last Thursday, after reports of a man suffering serious injuries.
Nicholas "Brian" Parfitt, from Trevethin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Parfitt's family said he was a "well-loved dad and grandad" and his death had been a shock. They are being supported by officers.
Senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Shelly Comley said: "We understand that there has been a great deal of interest in this investigation.
"We ask that people consider how their language, especially comments made online, could impact our ability to bring anyone found to have committed a criminal offence to justice."
