Two people have been arrested after pictures circulated on social media of a couple involved in a public sex act in Scarborough.

North Yorkshire Police said it received reports of the incident in the seaside resort's centre, said to have taken place at about 19:00 BST on Monday.

Following a public appeal, a 38-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, both local to the town, were arrested on suspicion of outraging public decency.

They were currently in custody, the force said earlier.
