Man shot in the leg and hit with iron bars by masked men
BBCA man has been shot in the leg after four masked men, one armed with a handgun, entered a house in County Antrim on Tuesday.
The man was also hit on the head and arms with iron bars at the property in Straham View in Dervock, near Ballymoney shortly after 00:30 GMT.
The masked men then made off in a Toyota Yaris, which was later found burnt out in Burnquarter Road.
Three other people who were in the house at the time were uninjured but left badly shaken by their ordeal.
"Officers along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries," Det Inspector Ballentine from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
North Antrim MP Jim Allister said the attack was "beyond appalling".
"It marks the latest effort by criminal elements to impose their will on and in the community in Dervock," the Traditional Unionist Party (TUV) MP said.
"I have previously met the PSNI about this anti-community campaign and again call for rigorous police action to bring to account those who think they are above the law."
