A teenager who admitted stabbing a man to death in Dundee after he made derogatory remarks about him has been detained for six years.

Lennon Hathway,19, killed Alistair Lamb with a knife at his parents' home in the Douglas area of the city in April 2025.

Hathaway was due to stand trial for murder, but prosecutors accepted his guilty plea to the lesser charge of culpable homicide.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard the pair became involved in an altercation after Lamb visited the accused's father.

The court heard Lamb shouted an offensive remark at Hathway.

Prosecutor David McDonald told judge Lord Cubie that a physical and verbal altercation then took place between Hathway and Lamb, who was 5ft 3in (1.6m) tall and weighed less than 10 stone (63.5kg).

The court heard Lamb went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife while Hathway went into his bedroom to get a knife from his collection.

McDonald said: "Mr Lamb was in possession of a serrated knife and the accused, who had retrieved a knife from his bedroom, continued the physical tussle in the hallway which moved into the living room next to the kitchen door."

The court heard that Hathway's mother saw the two men at the doorway between the living room and kitchen and shouted on them to stop.

She then saw her son stabbing in a downward motion with a knife.

The court heard paramedics arrived soon after the incident and tried to save Lamb's life, but he died in Ninewells Hospital later that evening.

A post mortem examination revealed Lamb's cause of death was a stab wound to the torso.

The court heard Hathway was a first offender.

Defence advocate Mark Stewart KC said Hathway had a chaotic childhood and had been bullied throughout his life.

Passing sentence, Lord Cubie said: "I have read the victim impact statement which tells me that he was a much-loved son, step-son and sibling and that this death has hit the family, his father in particular, very hard indeed."
