Lieutenant governor receives honorary doctorate

The Lieutenant Governor of Jersey, Vice Admiral Sir Jeremy Kyd, has been awarded an honorary doctorate of science by the University of Southampton.

Sir Jeremy was recognised at a ceremony at the Guildhall on Tuesday.

He said the honorary award was recognition of the connections between the island and the university.

"I am thrilled and very humbled to have been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from my 'alma mater', where I studied oceanography and biology nearly 40 years ago," he said.

He added: "As the Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey, I know how many Jersey people already benefit from specialised and routine health care at the University Hospital of Southampton Trust already, which is just great.

"I am very proud of the increasingly close links between Jersey and Southampton Hospital and the university."
