More than 1,000 superheroes took to the streets of Ipswich to complete a midnight walk.

The annual sponsored walk, which has been taking place since 2008, was in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice, which cares for people across Suffolk.

This year, participants were asked to don their favourite superhero costumes and walk a 6-mile (9.6km) or 9-mile (14.5km) route, starting in Christchurch Park on Saturday.

James Fox-Golding, events and challenges manager at the hospice, thanked all those involved and said more than £100,000 had been raised.

Gemma Holland completed the walk in memory of her dad, Terry Holland, who died last December while in the care of the hospice.

"The atmosphere really was electric, as everyone came together to support one another and to show their love for the hospice," she said.

"All the volunteers were amazing and the range of costumes was great to see too. Even a little bit of rain didn't dampen spirits."
