A pensioner has died in a house fire, police have said.

The blaze broke out at a property on Poole Road in Salterbeck, Cumbria, at about 18:30 BST on Thursday, killing the man aged in his 80s.

A police cordon remains in place and a joint investigation with the fire brigade has been launched "to establish the cause and full circumstances".

Cumbria Police asked anyone who may have witnessed the fire, has relevant information or footage of the area at the time to contact officers.
