Two ambulances have crashed on a road outside Southend University Hospital.

One of the vehicles was transporting a patient to hospital and the second was responding to a 999 emergency call "under emergency driving conditions", according to the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS).

The crash happened on Prittlewell Chase at 11:51 BST.

Three ambulance crew members were taken to hospital but the patient being transported was not injured, an EEAS spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said: "The patient being conveyed by ambulance was not injured in the incident and has been transferred to hospital by another ambulance."
