People have been urged to avoid the area around a field fire in East Sussex - the second that crews have tackled in two days.

Firefighters from Hailsham and Eastbourne were sent to the blaze shortly before 23:20 BST on Tuesday in Stone Cross, where about 50 sq m (538 sq ft) of grass was well alight.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) said crews had been using a hose reel jet and fire beaters to extinguish the blaze and were making "steady progress".

People have been urged to avoid the area and residents have been advised to keep windows and doors closed.

The Stone Cross fire came a day after firefighters tackled a blaze in a field of crops near the Drusillas roundabout in Berwick.

ESFRS said crews from Eastbourne and Seaford were called shortly before 20:25 BST on Tuesday and used three hose reel jets and three main jets to extinguish the fire.

The blaze damaged between 5,000 and 10,000 square metres of land, the fire service said.

Crews left the scene just before 21:40 BST. There were no reports of casualties.
